Khushi Nigam, Founder, The Peace Gong Fellowship

Development, as a pillar, underscores our dedication to fostering sustainable progress. The fellowship seeks to instill in our participants a holistic understanding of development, transcending traditional boundaries. Through hands-on experiences and collaborative projects, we aim to nurture a mindset that views development not merely as economic growth but as a harmonious interplay between economic, social, and environmental factors. The goal is to empower our fellows to become architects of sustainable and inclusive development in their communities and beyond.

Our commitment to teaching public policy is grounded in the understanding that informed decision-making at the policy level is pivotal for shaping societies. Through the fellowship, we aim to empower our participants with a deep comprehension of public policy dynamics, enabling them to analyze, critique, and contribute to policies that drive positive change. We believe that by imparting this knowledge, we are equipping our fellows with the tools to navigate the complexities of governance and enact meaningful policy transformations.
By participating in the implementation of the SDGs, young people can influence decision-making and ensure that their voices are heard in the creation of policies and programs that affect their future. Advancing the SDGs gives young people the opportunity to develop leadership, teamwork and critical thinking skills that will serve them well in their personal and professional lives.
As a young changemaker, I believe that the Sustainable Development Goals aim to improve our livelihood everywhere. Hence, I encourage my fellow youths to take action and engage in the fellowship to learn and be well-versed with the SDGS and inspire the change.
When Khushi initially contacted me about the idea of a global Fellowship for promoting SDGs, it seemed like an aspirational challenge. Today, Lantern Tribe is proud to partner with the Peace Gong to bring about a worthy, notable acceleration towards the global SDGs. Our generation can and will bring a positive impact through global cooperation!
The Peace Gong Fellowship aspires to be a network involving students from Asia, Africa, Latin America, North America, and Europe. For 3 months, the Fellowship will afford its Fellows the (hybrid) opportunity to work on community development projects focusing on various SDGs.
As you delve into this transformative experience, you will not only gain invaluable insights and skills but also forge lifelong connections with like-minded peers from across the continents. Together, you will amplify your impact, creating a ripple effect that extends far beyond the three months of the Fellowship. The Peace Gong Fellowship is where passion meets purpose, and where the students of the Global South unite to shape a future where the SDGs are not just aspirations but lived realities!
Please reach out to us if you cannot find an answer to your question.
The Fellowship offers an incredible opportunity to make a tangible impact, to enhance your connections with likeminded students from across the world, and to learn from reputable NGOs working in those domains! Ultimately, the Fellowship experience is what you make out of it. As a community, we strive to give you the best opportunity to learn and grow in a global environment, and the long run, you can join our team or visit us in India to work on our community projects here!
The Fellowship lasts 3 months. This year, the program will start on 15.05.2024, and will last until 30.07.2024.
If you are aged 18-25, and are either currently enrolled in a university or have graduated up to 3 years ago, we accept your applications. Please note that for refugee students, this is not a criteria. There are no barriers to nationality, geographical location, or work experience.
As our Fellowship is pro-bono, we do not take or offer any funding. Our goal is to make volunteering and learning about policy and development ethical, sustainable, and accessible, and thus, we cannot offer any stipend/funds for your projects. Kindly note that we promote projects that require little to no investment; projects such as teaching at an orphanage, campaigning for climate action or conducting a tree-planting drive during your tenure are perfectly acceptable! While bigger projects are always welcomed, we kindly ask you to not invest too much money into them; ultimately, creating an SDG impact is more about your motivation and less about monetary involvement!
The Fellowship is hybrid : We expect you to partake in grassroots-level work in your chosen SDG. This may be done once your teams have been formed and an NGO has been assigned to you: For example, some students from Kenya may make a blueprint of the program which can be implemented by students in India.
However, the webinars on public policy, leadership, and development will only be offered online.
Yes, as the Fellowship is online, you would require a stable internet connection to participate in workshops with your team, to communicate with your cohort, and to communicate on your projects. We also require a functioning email ID to mail the certificates upon the completion of the program.
Yes. Unfortunately at this stage, we cannot provide translators. Thus, we prefer candidates who are bilingual with a working proficiency in English.
Diverse and motivated! Your team will be selected based on their (similar) interest in your chosen SDG. This may involve different nationalities from different countries.
In case your application is shortlisted, you will be asked for a brief 10-minute interview through Skype, Zoom, or WhatsApp. This is not a pressure test; the interview will only assess your motivation and suitability for the program!
