Let us come out of our slumber; let the collective consciousness of our society challenge any forms of violence against girls and women in India
AN OPEN LETTER TO CITIZENS OF INDIA
Dear Citizens of India,
Even as DURGA PUJA celebrations have started all over INDIA, the NATION has yet being given a jolt by the brutal rape of a two-and-half year’s old girl in the National Capital. Repeated brutal assaults and violence against women and girls irrespective of their ages in various parts of the country is a constant reminder that they are the most vulnerable citizens of INDIA. The nation is drenched with the festive fervour. But, these are the darkest days for the helpless families of the two toddlers who were brutally gang raped by assailants more than 17!
Less than two months before the third anniversary of the shocking gang rape of a student in a moving bus in New Delhi that rocked the entire nation, this case will be a chilly reminder to Indian women: Sorry! Even a two year old can be brutally assaulted and left bleeding!
In a country where the female form is epitomised as a sacred divine creation, the nation is shamed when the attacks add to a grim catalogue of myriad sexual assaults all across India. The gory details of these assaults are getting more brutal and devastating day by day.
Dear Citizens! These shameless and brutal cases shake the very foundation of our consciousness and our being. How can the collective consciousness of our society continue their daily chores without getting agitated and shamed? There may be groups which are protesting and condemning but what about a vast majority of our citizens. They continue their lives as if nothing has happened. This has to end; each one of us has the responsibility to come out of our slumber and take proactive steps to contribute to end violence against girls and women in our society.
We, the children and youth of the PEACE GONG team across the country urge INDIA to stand up against ASSAULT ON WOMEN, ASSAULT ON THE GIRL CHILD, and ASSAULT ON INDIA’S FUTURE. LET US ALL COME TO EVOLVE A COLLECTIVE CONSCIOUSNESS AGAINST EXPLOITATION AND BARBARIC BEHAVIOUR AGAINST WOMEN AND GIRLS. THERE IS NO TIME FOR SILENCE, IT IS TIME FOR ACTION!
